Nintendo has sold 700 million consoles in total
Recently, Sony celebrated the 500 million consoles sold announcing the new PlayStation 4 Pro 500 Million Limited Edition. Now, it's been Nintendo's turn: the Big N has sold 700 million consoles in total. From Gamnesia have published a report that breaks down the numbers of sales of the consoles of Nintendo. Apparently, the company has sold more than 700 million consoles since the launch of NNES, between portable consoles and desktop. Of course, his latest creation, the hybrid Nintendo Switch, has contributed its huge grain of sand. We leave the figures below:

Sales of domestic consoles (in millions)

  • NES - 61.91
  • SNES - 49.10
  • N64 - 32.93
  • GameCube - 21.74
  • Wii - 101.63
  • Wii U - 13.56
  • Switch - 19.67
Total: 300.54 The debut of NES remained in the first place with its 61.91 million units sold, until the arrival of Wii, which broke into the market getting 101.63 million consoles. Nintendo Switch, for now, is doing a better performance than Wii U, with its 19.67 million consoles sold.

Sales of portable consoles (in millions)

  • Game Boy - 118.69 (includes the Color version)
  • Game Boy Advance - 81.51
  • DS - 154.02
  • 3DS - 72.89
Total: 427.11 On the other hand, in the section of portable consoles, the original Game Boy and the Color version managed to sell 118.69 million units. This figure, for now, has only been surpassed by the revolutionary touch screen of Nintendo DS, with its 154.02 million consoles sold.
